Born in Lagos on January 29, 1978, Helen Paul grew up with her grandma as her caregiver. She carried on with her studies at the University of Lagos, where in 2010–2012, 2019–she received her Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees in Theatre Arts.

She obtained her PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos in 2019, and since 2020, she has been conducting postdoctoral research in the US. She also holds professional degrees from well-known colleges. For instance, she graduated from Pan-African University’s School of Media and Communications with a Certificate in Media Enterprise. Additionally, she has a basic presentation certificate from the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.

Helen Paul has presented for a variety of media outlets in Nigeria both full-time and on a freelance basis. Among them are MNet (where she currently co-presents JARA on Africa Magic), Lagos Television (LTV 8), and Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS). Paul made his radio debut on Radio Continental 102.3FM in Lagos as a nasty comedic character on the program Wetin Dey. She was referred to on the show as “Tatafo,” a brilliant young woman who parodies and satirizes social issues.
She has also hosted programs on TVC and Naija FM 102.7. Paul’s debut album, Welcome Party, came out in July 2012 and included Afro-Pop songs including “Boju Boju,” “Vernacular,” “Gbedu,” and “God Forbid.” It also has an Afro RnB song called “Children of the World,” an Afro RnB song called “Use Calculator,” and an awareness song on the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
