In 2008, Kontinen and Christopher Rungkat won the French Open boys double title. He reached the Wimbledon boys’ singles final, but lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-finals.
He also finished second in the 2008 U.S. Open boys doubles alongside Rungkat. After that, knee issues impeded Kontinen’s singles growth, thus he switched to doubles in 2013.
Following Fame
Kontinen won his first ATP title with Jarkko Nieminen at the Bet-at-home Cup Kitzbühel in 2014, as well as two more finals with Marin Draganja the following year.
Despite this, Henri had a breakout year in 2015, winning five championships, including the Barcelona Open BancSabadell, which was his first ATP World Tour 500 series trophy. At the 2015 French Open, he and Zheng Jie reached the mixed doubles semifinals.
