Sulochana Latkar, Mumbai, June 4, 2023- a prominent Hindi and Marathi actress, died on June 4, 2023, at the age of 94. She had breathing issues as well as other age-related concerns. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Sushrusha Hospital, where she died.
Sulochana Latkar: A Multitalented Indian Actress
Sulochana Latkar was born on July 30, 1928, in the village of Khadaklat in the Chikodi taluka of Karnataka’s Belgaum district. She began her acting career in Marathi theatre before moving on to cinema.
She made her Marathi film debut in 1952 with Chimukla Sansar and went on to appear in over 250 Marathi films. Sangtye Aika, Sadhi Manse, Pinjra, and Ek Gaon Bara Bhangadi are some of her prominent Marathi films.
She also appeared in over 50 Hindi films, primarily as the mother of major performers such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, and Shashi Kapoor. She was well-known for portraying motherly figures in a loving and sympathetic manner. Shree 420, Nagin, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, Sujata, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Dil Deke Dekho, Aasha, Majboor, Nai Roshni, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Gora Aur Kala, Devar, Bandini, and many more are among her popular Hindi films.
For her contributions to Indian cinema, she received the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Maharashtra Bhushan Award in 2009. Several more honors and distinctions were bestowed upon her by various cinema organisations and cultural organizations.

Sulochana Latkar was married to musician and composer Laxmikant Kudalkar. They had three children: Marathi actress Kanchan Ghanekar, music director Anand Kudalkar, and sound engineer Ashok Kudalkar. She was also the grandma of six grandchildren and the great-grandmother of four.
She was quite close to her family and was always supportive of their ambitions. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. On July 30, 2022, she celebrated her 94th birthday with family and friends.

Mother to so many Hindi film stars.. has died.. my Mother in so many films.. sad.. condolences.. prayers..” Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, also tweeted: “Saddened by the death of veteran actress Sulochana Latkar ji.” She will be recognized for her diverse roles in Marathi and Hindi films. “Please accept my heartfelt condolences to her family and fans.”
Sulochana Latkar’s funeral will be held at the Dadar cremation grounds on June 5. According to government custom, she will be cremated with full state honors.
