He suffered a rib injury in 2008 and was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, which meant his lungs’ arteries had been compromised. During the filming of the episode in 2010, Phil experienced a stroke and passed out. He made a partial recovery but died a year later from an internal hemorrhage.
