Early Career and Professional Life of James Lipton
On WXYZ Radio’s ‘The Lone Ranger,’ James Lipton portrayed DanReid. He walked away and went to work to help pay for his education. He wrote for a number of soap operas and also appeared on ‘The Guiding Light.’ Lipton studied modern dance, classical ballet, and voice, among other things.
In addition, he choreographed a ballet for the American Ballet Theatre. In 1951, Lipton appeared on Broadway in the play ‘The Autumn Garden.’ He played a shipping clerk in the 1953 crime drama. His book ‘An Exaltation of Larks’ was first published in 1968 and has been revised several times since then.
‘Mirrors,’ Lipton’s novel about the lives of dancers, was later made into a television film. James created approximately two dozen television specials.
In 2004, 2005, 2013, and 2019, he appeared in several episodes of Arrested Development. In Disney’s animated film ‘Bolt,’ James provided the director’s voice. He also made two appearances in the same episode of ‘The Family Guy.’
James tried to start a three-year acting training program in the 1990s. In 1994, he set up the “Actors Studio,” and he started a project called “Inside the Actors Studio,” to show how actors work.
In interviews, Lipton stated that he was a pilot, certified in single-engine land planes, and a member of the ‘Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.’
He also appeared in two episodes of The Simpsons in 2002 and 2011. He created and executive produced President Jimmy Carter’s, Inaugural Gala.
