James Spann was born on June 6, 1956, in Huntsville, Alabama, United States. Carolyn Spann and Max Spann were destined to be his guardians. When James was just seven years old, his father abandoned his family.

He spent the majority of his childhood in Greenville, Alabama, and Tuscaloosa. He used to play rock n’ roll on the radio before becoming a meteorologist. Furthermore, it was here that he began his transmission career. He started working at WTBC radio in 1973.

Professional Career of James Spann:

• Spann began his career in television newscasting in 1978 at WCFT in Tuscaloosa. He joined NBC subsidiary WSFA as an end-of-week sports and low-maintenance meteorologist the same year.
• Spann was selected Best Weathercaster by the Dallas Press Club in 1985. Regardless of not having a traditional climate-related degree.
• Spann went on to serve as an evening drive analyst for Top 40 station WHHY-FM. Soon after, Spann was hired as the central meteorologist for WAPI-TV in Birmingham, making him one of the youngest chief meteorologists in the country at the age of 23.
• In addition, he gained popularity in the journalism world when he broadcast a live coverage of the deadly twister that devastated Tuscaloosa in December 2000. In 2001, he was honored by the National Academy of Television with an Emmy Award.

• James has won many awards for best weather anchor in Alabama, including the Best Weather Anchor Award in April 2010.
• Spann is also the 32nd person to be certified by the American Meteorological Society as a broadcast meteorologist (AMS). He’s also the founder of The Weather Factory, which provides weather data to various radio stations.
• He is also the author and director of AllWorship.com, a non-profit organization that webcasts three streaming radio shows that feature Christian music.
• James is also the Chairman of the Trinity Medical Focus Board of Directors and a member of the University of Alabama College of Communication Board of Visitors.
• A large number of admirers love his voice and details on the show, WeatherBrains digital recording. On Sundays, he also leads Children’s Love at Double Oak Community Church. As a meteorologist, he considers J.B Elliott to be his compass. Elliott was a National Weather Service employee at ABC 33/40.

In addition, James and Karen are grandparents to Kason Paul, a grandson. Kason was born on July 1, 2013, to James Spann’s oldest child, James-Paul Spann. The Spann family also resides in Birmingham, Alabama. Ryan, James’ younger son, works at BlackBird diligent as a music producer.
