Career and Professional Life
During high school, James started playing basketball, and he kept it up through college. His job at Ensworth School ran from 2016 to 2017. In May 2017, he joined Team Penny, which was started by former NBA players. At the beginning of August, he moved to Memphis East High School. He was taught for the first time by Penny Hardway, who played in the NBA.
On November 16, 2017, the TSSAA banned Wiseman from his junior season because of a “coaching link” between him and Hardaway. However, it was still allowed to play on December 13 because the TSSAA rule was “unclear in its implementation,” so it could.
Wiseman also played for the University of Memphis on the men’s basketball team, the Memphis Tigers. Then, on November 20, 2018, he decided to go with Memphis instead of Kentucky. As a result, he was able to get back in touch with Penny Hardaway, his high school coach.
Memphis couldn’t play preseason games in the Bahamas in August 2019 because Wiseman had a shoulder injury. He didn’t play in the team’s two preseason games in October because he had a bad ankle.

Suspension from the NCAA
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) said that James Wiseman was not allowed to play for the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team because he had sex with another player. Leslie Ballin, Wiseman’s lawyer, said that the NCAA found that Hardaway, a Memphis alumnus, had been a booster. As a result, he was given a short-term restraining order against the NCAA’s decision. The judge in Shelby County let him keep playing. After dropping an injunction against the NCAA’s decision in mid-November, the NCAA’s final decision said that he would miss 11 games. In addition to the suspension, they told Wiseman’s family to donate $11,500 to a good cause, too.
