Jared Porter interned for the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Brewster Whitecaps in 2002 and 2003 before joining MLB as an executive. In 2010, he interned with the Boston Red Sox, eventually becoming their Director of Professional Scouting in 2012.

In 2015, he became the Cubs’ Director of Professional Scouting. They helped create the 2016 World Series squad with former Red Sox executive Theo Epstein, who was recruited as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016-17.

Porter became the Mets’ General Manager on December 13, 2020. During Porter’s tenure as the Cubs’ Director of Professional Scouting in 2016, he sent over 60 unsolicited texts to an unnamed female journalist, including a penis photo. The Mets fired him the next day, just over a month later.
