He tossed for 5,109 yards and 52 touchdowns in three years with the Golden Eagles, while also rushing for 659 yards. Jaren was re-recruited by Kalani Sitake and Ty Detmer after committing to Bronco Mendenhall’s staff in the 2016 recruiting class. Jaren began his college career at BYU in the spring of 2018. He was a member of the football squad as well as the baseball team at BYU. He hit a grand slam against New Mexico in 2020, but his baseball career was put on stop in 2021. Jaren moved up to third quarterback his rookie year, and in 2019, he got the majority of the first-team reps at quarterback during spring practices. He was also the first Black American quarterback to start for the Cougars in 2019. During the 2019 season, he started two games but had to leave early due to concussion protocol. Jaren threw for 214 yards and added 54 yards on the ground in only one half of action against Utah State.
