Paulette Carpoff, Jeff Carpoff’s wife, was a key player in a massive pyramid scheme that lasted years and duped individuals out of millions of dollars.

Between 2011 and 2018, Paulette and Jeff recruited over 20 investors who mistook them for solar generator developers. However, it was later discovered that at least half of the 17,000 gadgets stated to have been manufactured did not exist.

In November 2021, the couple agreed to collaborating on wire fraud and money laundering.

Later, Jeff was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and Paulette and five other defendants who were also involved in the deception pleaded guilty to equivalent offenses.

The Carpoffs received $910 million from 17 investors, but instead of developing solar generators as promised, they retained at least $140 million for themselves.

Jeff and Paulette spent the stolen money on jewelry, a baseball club, and 148 vehicles, including actor Burt Reynolds’ 1978 Firebird.

However, in December 2018, the FBI raided the Company’s activities, leading to suspicions of a Ponzi scheme affiliated with the Company. DC Solar Company eventually declared bankruptcy under Chapter 11.

According to FBI and SEC investigations, Carpoff and his wife, Paulette, guaranteed federal solar tax credits, lease payments, and profits to 17 investors between 2011 and 2018, but instead spent the money lavishly.

The money was allegedly spent on houses, aircraft, jewels, a semi-professional baseball team, cruises and vacations, and even work clothes for family members.

Meanwhile, the majority of the lease revenue was coming from new investors, and many of the mobile solar generators the Company claimed to have built never existed.

The Carpoffs pled guilty to wire fraud and money laundering in January 2020, forfeiting $120 million in assets.
