Jerry Jarrett was born on September 4, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States. When he was three years old, his mother, Christine “Teeny” Jarrett, and father split.

Christine began her career as a ticket vendor for NWA Mid-America promoters Nick Gulas and Roy Welch at the Nashville Hippodrome. Christine was promoting events for Gulas and Welch in Indiana and Kentucky during the early 1970s. At the age of seven, Jarrett began marketing programs for Gulas and Welch.

Jerry Jarrett married Deborah Martin, Eddie Martin’s daughter. Jerry Jr., Jeff Jarrett, Jason Jarrett, and Jennifer were their four children.

He and Jeff had a falling out when controlling TNA in 2005, but they were able to put the past behind them in 2015.

Jerry Jarrett’s Wrestling Career

After graduating from Peabody College in 1963, Jarrett began working as an office assistant for Welch and Gulas. When a referee failed to appear at an event, he was forced to fill in.

Jarrett decided to pursue a wrestling career after serving as a referee in the 1960s. He received instruction from a friend, Tojo Yamamoto, as well as an experienced wrestler, Sailor Moran. In 1965, Jarrett made his wrestling debut in Hayti, Missouri.

He wrestled in NWA Mid-America for the first few years of his career. He won the NWA Mid-America Tag Team Championship twice and the NWA World Tag Team Championship once. Jarrett won the NWA Southern Tag Team Championship ten times.

In 1975, Jarrett won the NWA Tennessee Tag Team Championship for Gulas’ Southeastern Championship Wrestling.

Jarrett formed the Continental Wrestling Association in 1977. He would wrestle in the promotion on occasion. In July 1980, Jarrett and Yamamoto were crowned the first CWA World Tag Team Champions. Jarrett wrestled as “The Hawaiian Flash” in 1985 while wearing a mask.

Jarrett retired in 1988 but returned to the ring in the mid-1990s for his United States Wrestling Association.

Jerry Jarrett’s Professional Career

Jerry and his mother collaborated with Jerry Lawler and Buddy Fuller to launch the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). This occurred following a disagreement between Gullas and Jarrett before to the creation of the CWA.

After facing heavy competition from CWA, NWA Mid-America ceased to exist in 1981. Gulas sold his land to Jarret.

Jarret and Lawler desired more young wrestlers to compete in their promotion in order to attract younger fans, particularly women who bring their boyfriends to the shows.

Jarrett united his organization with World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) to become the United States Wrestling Association in 1989.

After a few years of operation, WCCW withdrew due to a revenue disagreement. Jerry Lawler and Larry Burton bought Jarrett’s interest in the promotion.

Jarrett stopped promoting and became a consultant for both World Championship Wrestling and the WWF.

Jerry and his son, Jeff, attempted to provide WWF stiff competition by launching NWA:TNA. They announced the foundation of J Sports and Entertainment (JSE) on May 9, 2002, as the parent business of NWA:TNA, a new wrestling promotion that began airing weekly.

Jarrett introduced professional wrestler Oleg Prudius to World Wrestling Entertainment in October 2005. Prudius was hired by WWE and later wrestled as Vladimir Kozlov.

Jarrett went on to run a construction company and an international television distribution company after leaving professional wrestling.

At the age of 80, Jarrett passed away on February 14, 2023.
