After graduating from college, Young interned at Smith Barney, a consulting business in Beverly Hills, California, where he made his stand-up comedy debut as “Lowball Jim” when he was 21 years old. He declined an opportunity to stay in his current position because he was unhappy there. Jimmy O Yang  went back to San Diego, where to make ends meet he DJ’d at a strip club and sold used vehicles. He met Sean Kelly, a stand-up comedian and the owner of The Comedy Palace, there while performing his stand-up comedy gigs for free. Together, they later founded Storage Hunters.

Yang joined Central Casting after traveling back to Los Angeles. After a buddy suggested it, he participated in acting classes, and the Vesta Talent Agency helped him find acting representation.

He made his acting debut in 2012 on the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls. Yang’s breakthrough came in 2014 when he made his debut stand-up comedy appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show. Additionally, he made an appearance in Criminal Minds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 9.
