He coached at Erie Community College from 1978 to 1982 before moving on to Nazareth College for the 1982–1983 academic year. He was a member of the team until 1997. The Richmond Spiders (1997–2002), West Virginia Mountaineers (2002–2007), and Michigan Wolverines (2007–2019) are among Beilein’s other successful teams.
