• LeMond took an interest in him and persuaded him to relocate to Los Angeles in 1981.
• Jon did not receive the first job he auditioned for, which was for the romantic comedy film Summer Lovers, which was won by Peter Gallagher.
• Despite the fact that he did not receive the part, the publicity served him well later in life when he was cast as one of the main characters in the NBC series Voyagers! As a result, his breakout role was his first.

The Untimely Death of Jon Erik Hexum

Jon Erik Hexum’s death was terrible to say the least. On the set of Cover Up on October 12, 1984, Hexum was given a.44 Magnum weapon and blanks while filming.

Hexum felt bored after a filming delay caused by the director’s disappointment with the results. In an attempt to lighten his mood, he became restless and began toying with the rifle.

Hexum took out all but one of the blanks from the functional handgun and started playing Russian Roulette, hoping that the functional gun with blanks (which employ paper or plastic wadding to contain the gunpowder) would be safe, but he had no idea that a close-range shot could cause serious injury.

Hexum pulled the revolver from his belt and pointed it towards his right temple. As a result of the bullet, his skull was shattered, and he was brought to the hospital.

Hexum did not survive the five-hour surgery and was declared brain dead six days later, on October 18, 1984. Hexum was a California Organ Donor Card holder at the time of his death, and as a result, six of his organs, including his heart, were given to save lives.

Producers of cover-ups In an out-of-court deal, 20th Century Fox Television and Glen A. Larson Productions would compensate Hexum’s mother.
