At the South Norwood and Victory club on Charnwood Road in Crystal Palace, London, England, Joshua Buatsi began his boxing career. Right up until he joined with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Buatsi and his trainer, Terry Smith, put in a lot of effort together. In the light-heavyweight division of the 2013 English National Championships, he took home the bronze medal. In 2014 and 2015, he won gold medals in the light-heavyweight division. He qualified for the 2016 Olympics after defeating Peter Mullenberg in the final of the European Boxing Olympic Qualification tournament and Oleksandr Khyzhniak in the semi-final. He won the bronze medal in the light-heavyweight event in Rio while competing for the Great Britain team. Buatsi began his career in 2017. He faced Carlos Mena on July 1, 2017, in his first match as a professional. In the second round, he prevailed via knockout. In September 2017, he beat Baptiste Castegnaro; in October 2017, Saidou Sall; in March 2018, Jordan Joseph; in March 2018, Bartlomiej Grafka; and in May 2018, Stephane Cuevas.
