Joy Behar is an actress, comedian, and writer from the United States. On ABC, she co-hosts The View’s daily chat show. She hosted the Joy Behar Show and Joy Behar: Say Anything! on HLN from 2009 until 2011. In 2015, TLC aired Late Night Joy, Behar’s most recent late-night weekly chat show. Early Life and Education

Behar, who was born on October 7, 1942, has become a household name. Her father, Gino Occhiuto, worked for the Coca-Cola Company as a truck driver, while her mother, Rose Occhiuto, worked as a seamstress. Her parents had only one kid, Joy. Behar is of mixed (Italian-American) heritage and holds American citizenship.

Joy attended Washington Irving High School and Queens College, New York City University, where she majored in sociology. She graduated from college in 1964 and went on to Stony Brook University to pursue a master’s degree in English.

Profesional and Personal Life

Joy began her teaching career as an English teacher at Lindenhurst Senior High School. She left her teaching profession to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian on television. Joy began her career as a receptionist and spent two years on Good Morning America before being promoted to production assistant. She began presenting comedies at a variety of New York City nightclubs. Her comics dealt with her family, women’s issues, gender equality, political and social topics, and so on.

Joy appeared on NBC’s The New Show. Last year, she returned to Good Morning America as a guest star. She achieved fame when she was offered a chat show on Lifetime Television called Way Off-Broadway, but she only lasted one season.
