After high school, he relocated to New York and later Los Angeles to pursue his music career.Mbogo began working with Alive Productions, a record company founded by music producer Reefa, in 2016 and left in 2021. In 2020 and 2021, the rapper released two mixtapes: Patient Enough and Ups & Downs. His debut album, Who Is KayCyy?, is due out in 2024.
Mbogo has worked with a variety of artists, including Lil Wayne on his album Funeral and Kanye West on his single “Wash Us in the Blood”. Mbogo has had a tight working relationship with West since 2019, thanks to record executive Abou “Bu” Thiam, who also manages West and KayCyy. KayCyy is signed to BuVision and Columbia Records. She sang and wrote on West’s album Donda, including the hit single “Hurricane.”
Mbogo won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his background vocals on Kanye West’s album Donda, as well as a nomination for Album of the Year. He also released a joint EP with Gesaffelstein called TW20 50 in March 2022, followed by the mixtape Get Used To It in June 2022. On May 26, 2023, he released TW2052, his second joint EP with Gesaffelstein. Mbogo also appeared and contributed to the songwriting for “Thank God” on Travis Scott’s album Utopia.
