The driver, Bavan a/l Nageswarau, was killed in the accident about 4:45 a.m.

According to the local fire service, the van collided with a 30-tonne truck that was travelling slowly. The four passengers (who suffered minor injuries) were brought to the Putrajaya Hospital for treatment, according to Norazam Khamis, the director of the Rescue Department.

In an interview with reporters, Malaysia’s sports minister further stated,

“It’s very awful, especially when it involves a badminton legend like Momota,” he said after visiting them in the hospital.

Momota sustained injuries to his face and a broken nose when the van bringing him to the airport collapsed, according to authorities in the region.
