2017

2018
Early in 2018, McClain competed in competitions at the International Gymnix and the Buckeye National Qualifier, where she placed second to Irina Alexeeva to take home the silver medal in the floor exercise. At the beginning of July, she competed at the American Classic, where she lost to Kayla DiCello in the all-around competition. Later on in the month, she participated in the 2018 U.S. Classic where, despite only competing in three events, she placed third on the uneven bars, trailing only Jordan Bowers and DiCello.
Additionally, in August, McClain competed in the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. She won the gold medal on the balancing beam and finished fifth overall. As a result, she received her first position on the national team.
2019

Senior Elite
2021
McClain and other gymnasts born in 2005 have been declared eligible for the postponed 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. In the previous, gymnasts born in 2004 or earlier were the only ones qualified. McClain participated in her first senior competition on beam and vault at the 2021 Winter Cup. On the beam, she finished fourth, and on the vault, third. McClain was one of five gymnasts featured in the Peacock documentary series Golden: The Journey of USA’s Elite Gymnasts. After a poor performance at the U.S. Classic, McClain abruptly quit her West Virginia gym and moved to Texas to train at WOGA under Valeri Liukin.
