The Chicago Bulls selected Aldridge second overall in the 2006 NBA draft, but his rights were quickly dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for their pick, Tyrus Thomas, and Viktor Khryapa. In an 87-95 loss against the Atlanta Hawks in 2012, Aldridge set a career high with eight assists. For the second time in his career, Aldridge was chosen an All-Star in 2013.

In 2015, he signed a four-year, $80 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Despite retiring for Bruce Bowen, Aldridge was given the number 12 jersey when he was purchased by the Spurs.
