At Knott’s Berry Farm, Tewws also joined the Birdcage Theatre Company. Lauren made her television debut in a Lipton Ice Tea commercial in mid-1974. She performed in minor roles in TV shows such as Charlie’s Angels, Vega$, Family, Starsky and Hutch, and others during the year. She also worked as a waiter in “penniless” Sunset Boulevard coffee shops.
Only after playing cruise director Julie McCoy on The Love Boat does she gain a break in her acting career. She made her cinematic début in 1984 with Jennifer Jason Leigh in the film Eyes of a Stranger. She’s also voiced characters in computer games like “Police Quest: SWAT 2,” “Pajama Sam 3: You Are What You Eat from Your Head to Your Feet,” and “Putt-Putt Travels Through Time.” Tewes was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Series for The Love Boat (1977) in 1982.
