In the television series Roots: The Gift, he repeated his role as Kunta Kinte in 1988. He began hosting the children’s show Reading Rainbow in 1983, and he was also the producer. The show aired for a total of 23 seasons before being cancelled in 2006. Burton and his colleague Mark Wolfe bought the Reading Rainbow brand when the show ended.
