American politician and attorney Lisa Murkowski is most recognized for her work as Alaska’s senior senator, a position she has held since 2002. After Senator Susan Collins of Maine, she is the second-most senior Republican woman in the Senate. The Republican Party is her political party. She is frequently referred to as a vital swing vote and one of the most moderate Republicans in the Senate. She served in the Alaska House of Representatives where she was elected majority leader before being appointed to the Senate. Her father, who resigned his position in the Senate in order to become governor of Alaska, controversially appointed her to the Senate.
