Early Childhood Development and Education

Louie Giglio was born on June 30, 1958, to Louie F. Giglio, Jr. and Martha Giglio. With his sister Gina Shaw, he spent his youth in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1995, his father died of a neurological ailment.

Louie graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1977. After graduation, he moved on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to finish his Master of Divinity. He then went on to Grace Theological Seminary to study for a Doctor of Ministry degree.

Career

Due to an overpowering sense about the God Jesus, he decided to devote his life to Christ rather than the collegiate lifestyle in 1977. After that, in 1985, Giglio and his wife started a weekly Bible study at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

The class went from a few dozens to a few hundred to over 1,600 students after starting with only a few students. In 1997, a large number of students joined the Passion movement. For the first time, it was held in Austin, Texas. The event ran for four days.

Despite the fact that the early conference (i.e. 2000) had a lower attendance, the conference met the expected standard in his later days.

In 2013, the conference drew over 60,000 young adults aged 18 to 25, representing 54 countries and over 2,000 institutions and colleges. Passion have produced larger regional and national events in cities such as Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Giglio and his wife launched a new church named Passion Church in 2009 after serving for a long time at Atlanta’s North Point Community Church.

 

On February 15, 2009, Passion City Church had its first service at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to the invitation, the Passion Church came onto the national stage on January 21, 2013, to deliver the benediction during President Barack Obama’s second inauguration.

The largest Jesus-focused collegiate gathering to date, Passion Conference 2017, drew over 55,000 students.

Throughout his career, Louie has written a number of books. I Am Not But I Know I Am: Welcome to God’s Story (2005), Wired: For a Life of Worship (2006), and Who is Jesus? (2006) are among his works. There’s also a Study Guide (2018) and a host of other resources. All of his books were national blockbusters, including Goliath Must Fall, The Comeback, The Air I Breathe, and Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God & Science.

The 2013 Passion Conference raised $3.2 million to fight child labor, forced labor, and human and sex trafficking. The Church also contributed more than $3.3 million to the Freedom Campaign.

He’s also covered a few worship songs, including those on the Indescribable album (April 15, 2008).
