They had to move since her father was a lineman for a telephone company. While her mother was carrying her brother, Fred Henry Ball, her father passed away from typhoid in 1915 (at the age of 27). In order to be nearer to her grandparents, her family moved to Celoron, New York.

Four years after her father passed away, her mother wed Edward Peterson, a Shriner who belonged to an international group for amusement, brotherly love, fellowship, and more. When she was 12 years old, she went to the female entertainer’s next event to try out, and after her performance, she was praised and recognized for her presence.

Career

When she was asked to model, Lucy’s career took off, and she soon started doing theater performances on Broadway using the stage names Dianne Belmont and Diane Belmont. She appeared as a chorus girl in a number of unimportant movies during the 1930s and 1940s. Also, she performed under contract for RKO Radio Pictures. She met Desi Arnaz, the man she would later marry, during this time.

I Love Lucy, a 1951 sitcom series, which Lucy debuted in the 1950s, became a hit and one of the most watched programs in television history. Lucy started her television career in the 1950s. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour was a television special that Lucy and Desi appeared in at the same time as The Long, Long Trailer in 1954 and Forever, Darling in 1956.

Desilu is a television production firm that Lucy and Desi started, and she is now its first lady. After their divorce, Lucy acquired Desi’s stake of Desilu Productions and assumed control as CEO in 1962. She was the producer of well-known television programs including Star Trek and Mission: Impossible. In 1967, the studio was bought out and combined with Paramount Pictures. Up until the time of her passing, Lucy managed her production while still acting.

Four Primetime Emmy nominations were made for Lucy. She was the first female filmmaker to win the Crystal Award in 1977. In 1979, she won the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, and in 1984, she won the Television Hall of Fame Awards.
