On April 20, 1951, Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. was born in New York City, New York. He was born to Luther Vandross, Sr. and Mary Ida Vandross. ‘Luther,’ ‘This Close to You,’ ‘Never Too Much,’ ‘Forever, for Always, for Love,’ ‘Busy Body,’ ‘The Night I Fell in Love,’ ‘Give Me the Reason,’ ‘Power of Love,’ ‘Never Let Me Go,’ ‘This Is Christmas,’ and ‘Dance with My Father’ are just a few of Vandross’ albums. Vandross also participated in several tours, including the Take You Out Tour (2001–2002), the Best of Love Tour (1990), the Busy Body Tour (1984), and the Any Love World Tour (1988–1989).

During his career, Vandross won three Grammy Awards. He also received Soul Train Music Awards and an American Music Award. He was also nominated for several other awards throughout his career.

Death

Luther was diabetic and had high blood pressure. After suffering a severe stroke at home, he ended up in a coma for nearly two months. He later died of a heart attack on July 1, 2005, at the JFK Medical Center.
