Lyle Jeffs is the former leader of the American polygamist cult. He was the FLDS church’s (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) acting president. His family has owned the church since the time of his forefathers.

Jeffs is the brother of the infamous Warren Jeffs, who was listed as one of the FBI’s ten most wanted individuals. Following his arrest in 2017 on charges of food stamp fraud and money laundering, Lyle’s life took a turbulent turn.

On January 17, 1960, Jeffs was born in the United States. He goes by Lyle Steed Jeffs in full. Marilyn Steed and Rulon Jeffs are Lyle’s parents. Rulon was a fundamentalist, just like Lyle. He was, in actuality, FLDS’s president and leader.

Lyle was raised in a polygamous household. Rulon, his father, had about sixty offspring and sixty women. Since Jeffs’ family was comparable to the British Royal family, as was previously indicated, he had certain privileges not enjoyed by the majority of other churchgoers.

Warren, Seth, and Nephi Jeffs are Jeffs’ siblings that are now known to exist. Lyle served as Warren’s special advisor when his older brother led the church.

Did Warren Jeffs Marry His Mother?

Warren supposedly married every widow of his father, Rulon Jeffs, and mother after his father’s death, with the exception of two. Two refused to wed him. Though Rebecca Wall managed to escape the FLDS compound, the other was forbidden from getting married again. Among his at least sixty children, Rachel Jeffs is one.

This did a great deal to cement his standing in the community. Moreover, Warren wed two underage girls—Millie Blackmore being one of them—claiming they were his spiritual spouses. It is said that Lyle Jeffs is a nine-time married man. After filing for divorce in 2015, his legal wife Charlene Jeffs and he parted ways. Lyle married Charlene in August 1983; she was his first wife.

Legally speaking, Jeffs is not married because his eight past purported marriages are invalid. But, Lyle’s first wife claims that he views them as his spiritual wives. According to reports, Jeff has more than 60 kids from his many relationships. The identities of Jeffs’s previous spouses, aside from Charlene, are unknown to the general public.

The relationship between Lyle and Charlene was a catastrophe. The bishop of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, who was Jeffs’s first wife, said that he had exiled her from his Hildale property for two years. She continued,

‘Of Lyle’s multiple wives, I was never the favorite because I have a mind of my own.

Lyle was charged with being a cruel person to Charlene. She was only permitted to clean and cook.

Charlene reportedly has ten children with Lyle Jeffs. In addition, he is charged with having 50 additional children from previous marriages. After filing for divorce from his lawful wife Charlene, Jeff got embroiled in a custody dispute for his kids.

Charlene had requested custody of their two teenage children, a girl who was 14 years old and a male who was 17 at the time. Currently, the two have joint custody. Charlene, Lyle’s ex-partner, believed he had mistreated their kids sexually.

Also, reports that were gathered from Jeff’s wife stated that he had forbidden Charlene from seeing their kids. Additionally, children were taken from their birth mother and shared among other spiritual wives according to a FLDS practice.

Lyle Jeffs: Where Is He Now?

In 2017, Lyle Jeffs received a five-year prison sentence. The FBI detained him on charges of food stamp fraud and money laundering. Yes, he and a few other church officials were charged with crimes related to food stamp fraud, even though they had previously been accused of rape and other offenses.

Jeffs was detained by the U.S. Marshals Service at the Minnehaha County Jail in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following his arrest. Also, lyle was also sentenced to three years of probation and $1 million in restitution, in addition to five years in prison.

The Phoenix Residential Reentry Management field office kept an eye on Jeffs. On March 15, 2021, he was eventually set free. After being freed, he returned to his home in Utah. His standing within the FLDS is unclear, though.
