National Anthem Disagreement

Before games, Abdul-Rauf refused to stand for the national anthem of the United States, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” He claimed that the flag represented oppression and tyranny. He was fined $31,707 per missed game for his refusal to stand, and the NBA suspended him.

Also he reached an agreement with the league two days later. During the anthem, he would stand but close his eyes and look downward.
