Martin Diño was Former chair of Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) . Prior to this, he was the Interior and Local Government Under Secretary. In January 2018, under former President Rodrigo Duterte’s government, he was appointed interior undersecretary. Dino was previously the chairman of the SBMA (Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority), which was also run by Duterte. Diño stated in September 2017 that Special Assistant to President Bong Go and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea informed him of Rodrigo’s intention to designate him as Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs at the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Childhood and Education

On July 25, 1957, Martin Diño was born in Quezon City, Philippines. He was sixty-six years old when he passed away. Martin was the son of educator Rosario Leon and former mayor of San Antonio, Quezon, Jose Dio. He was born and reared in Barangay San Antonio, where he also held the position of barangay captain for three years. Martin Dio graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After that, he continued his legal studies at the University of Santo Tomas. After passing the bar exam in 1984, he started practicing law.

Cause of Martin Diño’s Death

In July 2021, Martin Diño revealed that her father had received a stage IV lung cancer diagnosis the previous year. She said that although he had received immunotherapy and chemotherapy, complications had caused his health to worsen. On August 8, 2023, Dio passed away in St. Luke’s Medical Centre in Quezon City due to an abrupt respiratory failure. He was surrounded by his family as he passed away. When Liza Dio found out about her father’s passing, she posted a heartfelt remembrance of him on Facebook. She characterized her father as a fighter who persisted until the very end. She also expressed her gratitude to everyone who had supported him and prayed for him.

Professional life and Career

Martin started off in his career as a merchant and lawyer. He held positions in a number of industries, including mining, real estate, transportation, and construction. Martin also got involved in politics, holding the position of Barangay Captain in San Antonio, Quezon City, from 2007 to 2013. He  selected as the Philippine League of Barangays’ (Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas) president in 2010. Under Rodrigo Duterte’s political organization, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Martin Dio filed for president in 2015. After that, he backed Duterte, who went on to win the 2016 presidential election, and withdrew his candidacy. Martin Dio   appointed chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) by Duterte in September 2016. In October 2017, he resigned following a disagreement with Wilma Eisma, the SBMA Administrator.

In November 2017, Diño  appointed as an Undersecretary in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), with responsibility for local government affairs. In addition, he served as vice chairman of the organization Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), which promoted opposition to terrorism, bribery, and illegal drugs.
