In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season for SDSU, Araiza made 10 of 14 field goal tries and was once again selected honorable mention All-Mountain West. In the team’s first game against UNLV, he also took over punting responsibilities and averaged 49.8 yards on five punts.

Araiza entered his redshirt junior season in 2021 as the first-string punter in addition to his kicking duties, and ESPN named him an All-American midway through the season at the position. He broke Texas A&M’s Braden Mann’s 2018 mark of 50.98 yards per punt to complete the season with an average of 51.19, earning himself the moniker “Punt God” from supporters. Araiza was designated the second player in Aztecs history to get a unanimous All-American selection and received the Ray Guy Award as the top punter in the country. After the season ended, Araiza made the announcement that he would forgo his last season of eligibility in order to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Professional Career

Araiza was chosen by the Buffalo Bills with the 180th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In the draft, he was taken third overall as a punter. After veteran Matt Haack was let go, he was named the Bills’ starting punter as a rookie. On August 26, 2022, one day after a lawsuit alleging him and two former SDSU teammates of rape went public, Araiza opted not to suit up for the Bills’ last preseason game. The following day, on August 27, he was freed.
