Mega Millions jackpot hits $785 million in time for the first drawing of 2023

The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $785 million, making it only the fourth prize to exceed $700 million.

After no ticket matched the six numbers chosen on Friday, the prize will be carried over to the next ticket drawing on Tuesday. Over 2.7 million winning tickets were sold in Friday’s drawing, with prizes ranging from $2 to $1 million.

No one won Friday’s Mega Millions lottery jackpot, pushing the top prize to an estimated $785 million for Tuesday’s drawing.

According to Mega Millions, all prizes that topped $700 million have continued to increase over $1 billion. The record Mega Millions jackpot was more than $1.5 billion in South Carolina in 2018, while the greatest jacckpot ever won in the United States was $2.04 billion in Powerball. This was asserted in November in California.

The most recent Mega Million jackpot to exceed $1 billion was won in July by an Illinois ticket.

It cost $2.00 each, and players choose six numbers in the hopes that the winning ticket is a match.
