Previously, he worked as an assistant coach for the Santa Clara (2003-07), Cleveland Cavaliers (2007-10), Golden State Warriors (2010-11), Memphis Grizzlies (2011-13), and Philadelphia 76ers (assistant 2013-18). Not to mention that he has competed on a global scale.

In terms of education, he graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in business management. Pierce then worked as a special education teacher at Pinnacle Academy in Santa Clara, as well as for a local financial services firm.
