Due to the nature of her parents’ jobs, which required them to move frequently, she was raised and attended school in several districts of Kenya. Nevertheless, the singer finished her education in Machakos after the family moved there in the end. Prior to joining Machakos Primary, she studied at Kamuthatha Girls Primary School in Embu. Mercy Masika comes from a musically inclined household. When she was a toddler, she started singing, and later she was on KBC’s “Joy Bringers” program. This was due to Mercy Masika, her mother, who was then employed by ‘Yours, Rise and Shine,’ another KBC program. Joy Bringers gave Mercy Masika and her sisters the chance to perform. While still in elementary school, Masika asked her mother and Helen Matawali for help in 1995 to create her debut album, “Nobody Like Jesus.” Masika led worship at Machakos High School while she was a student there. She began to make changes in her life and published her second album, “Roses Will Bloom Again,” in Form 2. Afterwards, Mercy attended Daystar University, where she became friends with Robert Kimanzi, a legendary music producer.Together with him, Masika recorded her fourth album, “Vendo Vaku.”
With the success of her song “Wendo Waku,” Mercy Masika shot to fame and became a household figure in Kenya’s gospel community. Over the years, Mercy has put out more songs and three albums. She leads worship at her church, JCC Kenya, as well. Masika is also the National Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency in Kenya.
