At the age of 14, Michael secured his second relationship with Fortune 500 business Mutual of Omaha for their Mutual of Omaha BREAKOUT Swim Clinic tour. Michael joined mega-stars Allison Schmitt and Cesar Cielo in representing the competitive swim brand when he inked a multi-year contract with Adidas at the age of 16.
Olympic Trials in 2021
Michael Andrew’s first swim in the 2021 US Olympic Trials could not have gone any better. Andrew blasted the American Record by over a half-second in the morning’s prelims in a time of 58.19, propelling him to third all-time in the event’s history. Andrew had set a new U.S. Open Record of 58.67 in the men’s 100 breaststrokes exactly one month before.
Michael Andrew won the 100-meter breaststroke final in 58.73 seconds on night two, earning him a spot on his first Olympic team. Andrew qualified for the team in the 200-meter individual medley (1:55.44, top place at trials) and the 50-meter freestyle (21.48, second place at trials).
