Barbaro was sent to The Run-Up podcast for a brief experience while Lisa Tobin, the publishing company’s first audio executive editor, was the Daily’s producer. Barbaro’s final written publication in the magazine was in January 2017, however at the time he didn’t even listen to podcasts.

By the end of the year, the Daily had gained 1 million daily listeners and a steady 5 million monthly listeners, making it the “Most Downloaded” show on the Apple podcast. The Daily reportedly increased the Post’s 2017 income by over $2 billion, according to the Vanity Fair piece.

Due of their popularity, many people anticipated that Barbaro would accept other absurd hosting offers from other networks. Barbaro, on the other hand, spoke about his long-standing relationship with the Post and said that because he was raised within its walls, the organization had a strong hold over him.
