Stone abandoned UDA after Herron’s killing and joined Red Hand Commando (RHC), a loyalist faction led by Sammy Cinnamond. Andy Tyrie granted Stone permission to reactivate his membership in UDA in 1984.
After killing Catholic milkman Patrick Brady on November 16, 1984, he committed his first murder. In 1985, he attempted but failed to assassinate Robert McAllister. He murdered Kevin McPolin in November 1985, and he was charged with the murder of Dermont Hackett in 1987.
Stone was convicted of murdering three people during a funeral in Milltown Cemetery in March 1988 and sentenced to 13 years in prison, only to be released under the Good Friday Agreement on July 24, 2000. He was also detained for attempting to attack the House of Commons.
