On May 19, 2008, Micheal Haley signed a two-way deal with the New York Islanders, launching his professional career. April 10, 2010, after the 2009–10 season had ended, he made his NHL debut with the Islanders against the New Jersey Devils. On July 1, 2012, Haley agreed to a two-year contract with the Islanders’ opponent, the New York Rangers. He was a member of the team for two seasons. On July 10, 2014, he agreed to a one-year, two-way free agent contract with the San Jose Sharks.
He played his first full NHL season in 2016–17, his third with the Sharks, tallying a career-high 2 goals, 10 assists, and 12 points in 58 games while leading the Sharks in penalty minutes (128). On July 1, 2017, Haley left the Sharks as a free agent and joined the Florida Panthers on a two-year, $1.65 million contract. Before being placed on waivers by Florida on February 19, 2019, Haley played 24 games in the 2018–19 season, the final year of his deal with the Panthers.
