Just two months after recovering their championship titles, The U.S. Express lost them against Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine. While Rotunda continued to compete in singles contests before leaving the WWF in early 1986, Windham quit the organization.

In the World Championship Wrestling (WCCW), Rotunda, whose real name is Irwin R. Schyster (IRS), teamed up with Kevin Von Erich and won the tag team championships before falling to The Fabulous Freebirds. He and Ted DiBiase established Money Inc. in the WWF, where they competed against teams like The Natural Disasters and The Steiner Brothers and twice won the tag team championships.
