Mills Lane, a Hall of Fame referee who oversaw more than 100 championship fights, including the Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield “Bite Fight,” died on Tuesday morning at his Reno, Nevada, home, according to his son Terry Lane.

Mills Lane was 85 years old. He suffered a stroke, which resulted in paralysis.

The bout between the two fighters in 1998 ended in a draw after Bernard Hopkins was ejected from the ring while Robert Lane was attempting to break one of the numerous clinches. Even his final fight, a first-round knockout of Jay Snyder by Tommy Hearns in 1998, featured a highly unusual double knockdown.
