Mohammed “Mo” Mustafa Amer was given the name Mohammed Amer at birth on July 24, 1981 in Kuwait. His ethnicity is Mixed because he is of Palestinian heritage and Kuwaiti-American nationality. He and the sixth child, the youngest. He has five siblings as a result. In the Kuwait Oil Company, his father was an engineer. At the age of nine, Amer, his mother, sister, brother, Haifa, and father evacuated their native Kuwait during the Gulf War. They moved to Houston, Texas, after immigrating to the country. His father, a telecom engineer, moved to the country with them in 1992.

Amer went at Piney Point Elementary while his older brothers were away at college. He was 14 years old when his father passed away in 1995. His other brothers include Omar, a pilot, and Amer, a biochemist with a Ph.D. who later changed the family name to Najjar. He will be 41 years old as of 2022.

He became a citizen of the United States in 2009, which allowed him to visit family in Palestine whom he hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years. Also he made his first trips back to Kuwait and Baghdad since his family departed.

  • When he was ten years old, his older brother first accompanied him to watch Bill Cosby perform in the Houston Astrodome.
  • He first encountered stand-up comedy at the age of 14 at a rodeo in Texas.
