Ne-Yo was born in the United States on October 18, 1979, in Camden, Arkansas. Shaffer Chimere Smith is his given name. He is an American citizen. Ne-Yo is of African-American descent, and his zodiac sign is Libra.

Ne-Yo was born into a music-loving household, the son of an African-American mother and a father of Afro-American and Chinese origin. Both of his parents were musicians, but when she and Smith relocated to Las Vegas, her mother split up with his father.
