On Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” Noah Schnapp, who portrays the secret gay kid Will Byers, has come out.
The 18-year-old actor wrote, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know’”in a video posted to his TikTok account on Thursday. Schnapp then lip-synced to an audio clip from another TikTok of someone saying, “You know what it never was? That grave. Never was it that serious. In all honesty, it won’t ever be that serious.

Will Byers is gay and in love with his best friend Mike, Schnapp revealed to Variety in July, following the release of the final two episodes of the fourth season of “Stranger Things” (Finn Wolfhard).
“Is it just that he’s growing up slower than his friends? It was kind of there all the time, but you never really knew,” I asked. stated Schnapp. “Now that he is older, they have made it seem very genuine and evident. The fact that he is gay and that he loves Mike is now undeniable.
Since the premiere of “Stranger Things,” Will’s sexual orientation has been a subject of debate, although Schnapp has consistently brushed off inquiries about the character’s sexual orientation by saying that it was still “up to the audience’s participation.” The creators of “Stranger Things,” Matt and Ross Duffer, weren’t totally clear on what they had in mind for Will, and once they were, Schnapp claimed he didn’t want to give away how the fourth season of the show will explain the character’s path.

When Variety questioned the actor about how he handled the focus on Will’s sexuality as the character was also still coming to terms with himself, Schnapp cited all the difficulties the character had encountered throughout the course of the show.
He remarked, “I think it’s all simply a part of the difficulty of acting. This is more complicated than just him having a hard time coming out. He was abducted by the Demogorgon years ago, and after that, his pals rejected him. As a result, he now fears coming out because he doesn’t know if they will accept him.
Although Season 5 of “Stranger Things” will wrap up the series, Netflix and the Duffers have not yet said when filming will start on the season or when it will air.
