Papi was a part of the French squad that participated in the FIFA World Cup in 1998. In 2004, he announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29. Papi Khomane also killed in a car accident on November 25, 2023, while traveling to Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Papi’s mother Rita Khomane and another passenger also killed in the accident, according to Papi’s father Johannes “Yster” Khomane. In Newcastle, the third-biggest city in the KwaZulu-Natal province, they were also meant to attend a funeral. The organization also issued a statement stating, “Orlando Pirates Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing away of former captain Khomane.”
