Paul was born on July 26, 1955, in New York City, to ophthalmologist Benjamin Finebaum and Gloria Filderman Finebaum, a former IRS clerk. As of August 2020, he will be 65 years old.

Finebaum was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended both Christian Brothers High School and White Station High School. He went on to the University of Tennessee, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1978.

Professional Career

For the Birmingham Post-Herald, Paul began his professional career as a sports columnist and investigative reporter. Finebaum won over 250 national, regional, and local industry accolades during his time at the daily newspaper. In 2001, he moved on to work for the Mobile Press-Register, and from 2011 to 2012, he worked for Sports Illustrated as a college football columnist for SI.com.

Finebaum made his radio debut in the mid-’80s as a guest on WJOX-Mark FM’s and Brian Radio Show. Before starting the highly syndicated The Paul Finebaum Radio Network in 2001, he held his own radio show at WAPI-AM. WJOX-FM purchased the show in 2007. He hosted the show until it was briefly canceled by WJOX-FM in 2013, at which point he joined ESPN and became the voice of the newly formed SEC Network in August.

Since then, he has hosted The Paul Finebaum Show, a daily four-hour radio sports talk show on ESPN Radio and the SEC Network. Finebaum is a weekly commentator on the SEC Network’s pregame show SEC Nation in addition to hosting the show. He also appears on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Get Up, College Football Live, and College GameDay as a contributor. Paul  is a prolific author best known for his “I Hate…” series of books. Aside from that, he is the author of the novels Paul Finebaum’s Worst and Finebaum Said.
