- Prakash began playing badminton at a young age when his father encouraged him to do so. He was a right-handed shuttler who debuted in the 1962 Karnataka state junior championship. He won the National Junior Championship in 1764 and went on to win the National Senior Championship at the age of 16 to become the youngest player to do so.
- Many people are surprised to learn that from 1971 to 1979, he won the national senior championship nine times in a row. In 1979, Prakash won the Royal Albert Hall’s “Evening of Champions.” Prakash emerged as India’s invincible shuttler in the 1980s, becoming the first Indian to win the men’s singles title at the ‘All England Championship’ after defeating Indonesian shuttler Liem Swie King, and was afterwards crowned World No. 1 after defeating Liem Swie King.
