On February 16, he started a scoreless home draw with SC Freiburg.

On September 28, 2019, he scored his first goal for Schalke in a 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig on the road. On January 7, 2021, he signed a loan agreement with EFL Championship team Stoke City that would last until the end of the 2020–2021 campaign. He signed a season-long loan agreement with Cercle Brugge on 24 April 2021, making 11 appearances for Stoke and scored one in a 1-1 tie with Nottingham Forest. On 9 August 2021, he had the option to make the transfer permanent.

On July 12, 2022, Rangers Rangers confirmed the signing of Matondo to a four-year contract, pending international clearance.

International career

At the international level, Rabbi Matondo represents the Democratic Republic of the Congo, England, or Wales. He previously represented England at the under-15 level before transferring to Wales at the under-17 level. In September 2017, he gained his first call-up to the Wales under-21 team, and he made his team debut that month in a 3-1 victory over Liechtenstein. In the second of two friendlies against Georgia in June 2018, Rabbi made his debut for the under-21 team and was given his first call-up to the senior Welsh team for a friendly against Albania.

On November 20, 2018, he made his senior international team debut for Wales by replacing Sam Vokes in the 78th minute of Wales’ 1-0 loss in Elbasan. On October 8, 2020, he started for Wales in a friendly match against England.
