Raja Bell

Raja Bell, a well-known figure, is a retired professional basketball player who played for the Philadelphia 76ers and Dallas Mavericks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also spent time with the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Bobcats, and Golden State Warriors. Bell announced his retirement from the NBA on February 13, 2014. He was twice named to the NBA All-Defensive Team.

Raja Bell was born on September 19, 1976, in Saint Croix, United States Virgin Islands. He grew up in the Miami area of Florida. Bell was a member of the United States Virgin Islands National Team before relocating to Miami in the eighth grade. He is Roger and Denise Bell’s, son.

After two seasons at Florida International and a two-year stint at Boston University, he went undrafted in the 1999 NBA Draft.

Brooklyn Bell, Tyler Bell, Destiny Bell, Jack Bell, and Tombi Bell were his five siblings. Tombi Bell, his brother, is a former Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball coach and former WNBA player from the University of Florida.

A career in the NBA

(2001–2002) Philadelphia 76ers

On April 16, 2001, Raja Bell was released and signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

(2002–2003) Dallas Mavericks

He signed as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks on October 1, 2002, and averaged 3.1 points in 15.6 minutes per game.

The Utah Jazz (2003–2005) was a professional basketball team based in Utah.

Bell signed with the Utah Jazz on September 26, 2003.

The Phoenix Suns (2005–2008) were a professional basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona.

He signed with the Phoenix Suns on August 3, 2005. He started 79 games and averaged 14.7 points per game in 37.5 minutes per game in 2005–06. The NBA suspended Bell for one game without pay for kicking Toronto’s Andrea Bargnani.

(2008–2009) Charlotte Bobcats

Bell was acquired by the Charlotte Bobcats on December 10, 2008, along with Boris Diaw and Sean Singletary. Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley were traded for the pair.

Warriors of the Golden State (2009–2010)

On November 16, 2009, he and Vladimir Radmanovic were traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Stephen Jackson and Acie Law. Bell was let go by the team on March 22, 2010.

Return to Utah (from 2010 to 2013)

On July 14, 2010, Bell signed a three-year, $10 million contract extension with the Utah Jazz.

Retirement

He announced his retirement from basketball on February 13, 2014.

Post-Retirement

Bell was hired as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Director of Player Administration on October 1, 2014. He also won an NBA Championship with the Cavs in 2016.

Private life

In July 2004, Raja Bell married Cindy Green. The couple met while attending Florida International University.

Tai Brooklyn Bell, born on November 8, 2008, and Dia Bell, born on May 2, 2007, are their two sons.

With their two sons, the lovebirds live a lavish and happy life.
