In the 1990s, legends such as Scott Hall ruled the wrestling world. To clarify, Scott is a retired American professional wrestler. Additionally, fans of World Wrestling Entertainment may recognize him now under the stage name Razor Ramon.Additionally, the man competed in World Championship Wrestling using his given name. Indeed, Ramon had made a reputation for himself in the wrestling world during his tenure with the American Wrestling Association.

After all, the man is a two-time WCW United States Heavyweight Champion and a four-time WWF Intercontinental Champion. Similarly, the founding member of New World Order has won nine World Tag Team championships.

Razor Ramon’s legacy had been recognized in 2014 with his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Ramon Razor: Education and Family

Razor Ramon was born in Maryland’s St. Mary’s County. Indeed, he was the son of an army officer. As a result, the family was forced to relocate each year. Additionally, he enrolled in and graduated from a high school in Munich, Germany.

Notably, he joined the National Wrestling Alliance’s Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF) in 1984. He was immediately embroiled in an on-stage feud with Dusty Rhodes.

Prior to his debut in a tag team with Dan Spivey, the two traveled to North Carolina to compete for Jim Crockett’s Mid Atlantic Championship. To clarify, Ramon’s stage moniker, Starship Coyote, is derived from his American Starship tag team partnership with Spivey.

However, the tandem lost the NWA National Tag Team Championship to Arn and Ole Anderson. Eventually, the two relocated to Bob Geigel’s NWA Central States in Kansas City in 1985. Additionally, Ramon remained there in quest of additional championships even after Spivey returned to North Carolina.

Scott debuted in the American Wrestling Association in 1985 as a babyface wrestler. He had taken on the stage identities of ‘Magnum’ Scott Hall and ‘Big’ Scott Hall in particular. Indeed, the AWA’s owner desired Hall to step into the shoes of Hulk Hogan, who had recently departed the band. Additionally, from 1987 to 1990, Hall fought in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

In January 1986, he won the AWA World Tag Team Championship alongside Curt Hennig. They lost the title, though, to Buddy Rose and Doug Somers in May of the following year. Following that, he attempted but failed to win the AWA World Heavyweight Championship.

To emphasize, Jim Ross introduced Hall to the NWA’s World Championship Wrestling in 1989. Similarly, his debut against The Freebirds at the WCW World Tag-Team Championships resulted in a loss. Similarly, in the July 9 edition, The Great Muta defeated him. He resigned from the association following his November loss to Butch Reed.

He returned to WCW in April 1991 under the new moniker ‘The Diamond Studd.’ Notably, he made his comeback debut at Clash of the Champions XV in June, defeating Tommy Rich. However, he lost to Tom Zenk in the game’s XVII episode and departed the brand again on May 8 of the following year.

Later that year, in December 1990, Hall competed as ‘Texas Scott’ at the Catch Cup ’90, a CWA tournament. However, he was defeated in the final by Soul Taker. He then defeated Migual Perez Jr. in March 1991 to claim the WWC Caribbean Heavyweight Championship.

Ramon had auditioned in Fort Myers for a WWF Wrestling Challenge filming. However, he did not sign with the brand due to his loss to Paul Roma. After leaving the WCW in 1992, Scott joined the WWF and adopted the infamous moniker ‘Razor Ramon.’ He then made his professional wrestling debut in August 1992 at Superstars, when he debuted with his signature finisher, ‘The Razor’s Edge.’

Additionally, Ramon assisted Ric Flair in winning the WWF Championship on September 14 by attacking his opponent Randy Savage during the bout. Similarly, Razor lost the Royal Rumble to then-WWF Champion Bret Hart. Additionally, he pinned former WWF Champion Bob Backlund on his WrestleMania debut. Additionally, he defeated Ted DiBiase in what would be Ted’s final WWF encounter.

Notably, Razor pinned Rick Martel in October 1993 to claim the vacant WWF Intercontinental Championship. Additionally, he defeated Shawn Michaels in a ladder match at WrestleMania X to become the undisputed Intercontinental Champion. Indeed, the match is ranked fifth among the greatest 24 WrestleMania matchups.

Additionally, Razor recaptured the title in April after defeating Kevin Nash at SummerSlam, to whom he had previously lost the belt. He lost the title to Jeff Jarrett at the 1995 Royal Rumble but won it back in a ladder match at the May 19 live event. Likewise, he established The Kliq, which included Nash, Paul Levesque, Shawn Michaels, and Sean Waltman.

Returning to the World Championship Wrestling and the New World Order.

Notably, Hall returned to the WCW in May 1996 alongside Kevin Nash. Meanwhile, Hall, Nash, and Hulk Hogan established a stable and New World Order (nWo). Additionally, Nash and Hall’s Outsiders won the WCW World Tag Team Championship at Halloween Havoc.

They successfully defended their championship against The Nasty Boys and The Faces of Fear before being defeated by The Steiner Brothers. Similarly, they won the title again in January 1998, this time defeating The Steiner Brothers at Nitro and SuperBrawl VIII. Scott Steiner, however, booted him out of the nWo Hollywood in 1998, while Hogan’s absence.

Hall eventually joins the nWo in January 1999. He later defeated Roddy Piper to win the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. He defeated Rick Steiner once more to reclaim the WCW World Television Championship at Mayhem. Additionally, he and Kevin captured the WCW World Tag Team Championship at Nitro in December.

Hall and the New World Order eventually returned to the WWF in 2002, attacking Stone Cold Steve Austin. Similarly, on March 4, he defeated Spike Dudley at Raw. In the meantime, he had defeated Bradshaw at Backlash.

He was soon joined at the nWo by Big Show, Bess Katramados’s husband. Similarly, in a six-man tag match, Big Show, X-Pac, and Razor Ramon faced Stone Cold, Bradshaw, and Ric Flair.

Similarly, Hall lost his debut at the NWATNA PPV in July 2002 against Jeff Jarrett in a stretcher match. He returned in 2004 with Nash and Jeff Jarrett to form The Kings of Wrestling stable. Similarly, he stepped away from the brand for a time until reappearing in November 2007.

Additionally, Sean Waltman teamed up with Nash and Hall in January 2010 to form The Band. Surprisingly, he fought Nash in a 5–Minute $25,000 challenge as a result of Waltman’s interference. The Band eventually secured a contract with TNA after defeating Nash and Young at Destination X.

Later that year, in May 2010, Eric Young became a member of the Band. To reiterate, Nash and Hall won the TNA World Tag Team Championship by defeating Matt Morgan. Similarly, at the 2010 Sacrifice, they defended the championship against Ink Inc. He eventually departed TNA in June 2010.

Notably, Corporal Robinson defeated Hall on his JCW debut in August 2007. Again, he teamed up with Violent J to form the Juggalo World Order stable. Similarly, the group has been known to invade various professional wrestling events, including the TNA Turning Point PPV and the WWE Royal Rumble 2009.

Additionally, Hall competed in a variety of independent circuit matches from 2010 to 2016. As a result, he competed in May 2010 in the Continental Championship Wrestling. Additionally, he took his son Cody to Belleview Pro Wrestling.

The reconstituted nWo, which included X-Pac and Nash, made their return to Raw on January 19, 2015. Indeed, they had defeated The Ascension, which was collaborating with the APA and The New Age Outlaws. Similarly, he featured in a Raw 25th Anniversary segment alongside D-Generation X and The Revival.

He was also spotted during the July 2019 Raw Reunion concert. Additionally, he and fellow nWo comrades will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020.

Ramon is without a doubt one of the greatest wrestlers of the 1990’s decade. Notably, Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked him seventh in the 1994 PWI 500 and seventh in 2003. Additionally, he has won seven WCW World Tag Team Championships and two WCW US Heavyweight Championships. Similarly, he is a former TNA World Tag Team Champion.

Additionally, Ramon has won the WWF Intercontinental Championship four times, winning two Slammy Awards in the process. Notably, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as Razor Ramon in the 2014 class. Additionally, he will receive his second induction under his given name. Additionally, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter named him Match of the Year in 1994 and Best Gimmick in 1996.

To provide some context, Ramon was formerly employed by the Diamond Mine. He was Kevin Nash’s partner at the time, and during those tenures, he met Hulk Hogan.

Not to add his unmistakable appearance with a toothpick in his mouth. Meanwhile, he’s developed catchphrases such as “…Hey Yo,…”, “Say Hello to the Bad Guy,” and “I am dripping with class and oozing with machismo.”

In all, he has a flamboyant yet lethal finale dubbed “The Razor’s Edge.” His overall appearance, even with the razor blade necklace, is iconic.
