Career
Rich started his career with the Minnesota Vikings as Wade Wilson’s backup quarterback after being selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 1987 NFL Draft. He competed for the Vikings for six regular-season seasons, defeating the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Despite all of his successes, he was unable to capture the 1987 NFC championship. Alongside Wilson and Kramer, he played quarterback for the Vikings. During a victory over the Lions in 1992, he suffered a left knee injury.
In 1994, Rich signed on with the Washington Redskins. He was a third-stringer and Cary Conklin’s backup behind starter Mark Rypien.
