Rickey Smiley, an Atlanta-based radio host and comedian, announced on Sunday that his son, Brandon, had died at the age of 32.

“I just had bad news this morning,” Rickey Smiley said in a social media video. “I’m on my way to the airport to catch a flight to Birmingham. I’d like everyone to pray for me and our family. Brandon Smiley, our son, died this morning. Jesus, Lord, have mercy.”
He also requested prayers for his son’s mother and family as he prepared to travel to Birmingham, Alabama.

The circumstances surrounding Brandon’s death were not revealed. Brandon also worked as a comedian and actor, according to AL.com.
Many people have expressed their condolences.
“I’m devastated to hear that my friend @RickeySmiley has lost his son Brandon,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said on Twitter. “Rickey has given so much to our city; this is the time when we need to give back to him. Please join me in wrapping our arms around him and his family during this trying time. Rickey, we’re praying for you.”

The Smileys have been through tragedy before. Rickey stated in 2020 that his daughter was hospitalized after being shot in Houston while on her way to Whataburger for lunch. Smiley assured his daughter, Aaryn, that she was “going to be fine” as he prepared to travel to Houston to be with her.
Smiley hosts the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show,” on Atlanta’s “Hot 107.9.”
